SOUTH ROSE HILL/BRIDLE TRAILS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Executive Committee Meeting - Tuesday, February 12, 2008
President Jeanette Simecek called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
ATTENDANCE: Jeanette, Andy, Barb, Don, Ern, Laura, Lorraine, and guests Jim McElwee and Collette Ulloa. C.Ray, Deirdre, and Colleen arrived at various times after the start of the meeting.
Jeanette spent a few minutes giving a brief explanation of the purpose and operation of the Board for Collette’s benefit.
Jim McElwee then spoke to the group about the proposed Costco gas station. There will be a meeting for interested parties on Saturday, February 16th at Fire Station #26 on 124th Avenue, from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. Some concerns which have been voiced are: the possibility of cut-through traffic; the effect of noise and lights on the residential area; and environmental issues. There aren’t yet any environmental studies available at this stage in the process. Jim thinks the North Rose Hill NA and/or residents should take the lead in opposing the gas station renovations project and that our NA should support them. If the project goes ahead with the approval of whatever agencies are involved in deciding the issue, NRH should ask for/demand concessions for the neighborhood, e.g. sidewalks. However if it appears that NRH will just ‘roll over’ and accommodate what Costco wants then perhaps SRH/BT should be ready to officially oppose the project.
Laura gave an update from the latest KAN meeting, touching on things such as the remodel of the library, the Virginia Mason Team Medicine Marathon (which will be going through our neighborhood this year on Sunday June 29th), and the splitting of the Neighborhood Connections dollars between South Rose Hill and Bridle Trails.
Currently it is planned that the Kirkland Library will be closing for a year while expansion and renovations are performed. Another community meeting will be held and there is hope that a temporary, alternative site will be identified to prevent the loss of the library services for a year.
We have the opportunity to host a water table at the Seafair/Virginia Mason Marathon on Sunday, June 29th. We can earn $200 if 15 people sign up and $400 if 30 people sign up. We should solicit volunteers at the March meeting.
The neighborhoods of South Rose Hill and Bridle Trails will be receiving separate Neighborhood Connections Grant money instead of receiving just one grant for our combined NA. SRH is eligible for $30,000 and BT is eligible for $28,000. Information is being sent by the City to the residents and brainstorming sessions will be held to gather ideas.
Elections and Nominating Committee – Don Samdahl has volunteered to chair the Nominating Committee which will come up with a slate for the 2008 N.A. Elections. Laura, C.Ray, Colleen and Ern are up for reelection to the Board and the Officers are elected every year. The Kirkland Planning Commission currently has an opening which may possibly be filled with a SRHBTNA Board member but this will create an opening on the Board.
Possible Agenda Items for the March General Membership Meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 11th:
