Updates
- Houghton
Transfer Center- Jane Hague has a
meting on April 29. Bruce Suggested that we push a 5 year transitional plan
towards closure, during which the facility would become for self haul only;
no compactors. We are also in
support of the intermodal facility idea.
Ray Schlienz was appointed to the Solid Waste Action Committee.
- Natural
Resources Plan- Imeria Schuler
offered to prepare comments on this draft plan and submit to the board for
consideration. Comments are due
at end of April. Bruce will email Patrice Tovar and email a copy of the plan
to members if they want to comment.
Please forward comments to Imeria by April 24.
- Meeting
with Police-
Imeria said she was
bringing to the police a video on diversity, which she believes will be
instructive. They are also
conducting a program on conflict resolution.
- Triathlon- We will give our approval for the planned route with the condition
that the organizers give a written plan to churches along the route.
We will also volunteer to staff the route through our neighborhood.
- Ben
Franklin School- The plan will be
presented at a meeting tonight. Several board members will attend.
- NE
85th- The
Transportation Commission discussed the BAT lanes on march 26.
Sound Transit reported that the BAT lanes would not proceed as
envisioned due to poor cost effectiveness.
Alternative ideas being considered to improve traffic and transit
operations:
- 132nd
Ave – Westbound right turn
lane- add 700’ extra length
- 124th
Ave- Eastbound double left turn
lane- extend northbound lanes somewhat
- Sidewalks
on streets between 80th and 90th to improve
walk access to 85th.
- Shelters
- Signal
Coordination
A
An open house is scheduled April 17 (?) with a report to the Sound Transit board
in May. There is concern about added
width on 124th Ave and effects on sidewalk widths.
- Permits
for Remodeling- What are the
rules for remodeling? When are permits required?
We discussed how to place anonymous calls to the building inspectors
related to perceived violations in our neighborhood.
Agenda for May
- Election
of New Officers and Directors
We
still need a vice presidential candidate.
- Dave
Ramsay- The city manager will give a city report
- Community
Discussions- The discussions
started in March will be continued.
- Reports

received our 2003 grant check.
