SOUTH ROSE HILL/BRIDLE TRAILS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Executive Committee Meeting – Tuesday, April 12, 2005
President Bruce Feuling called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Bridle Trails Speed Committee – Bruce reported that the first meeting of the Bridle Trails Speed Committee was very successful. Half the group was there with concerns for N.E. 60th Street, while the other half voiced their concerns about 122nd Avenue N.E. Ellen McMahon, Neighborhood Traffic Control Program Coordinator, said it would probably take three months to get results from hump/cushion tests. Then the Committee will proceed with traffic calming plans incorporating that new data.
Agenda for May Meeting – The May meeting will feature Dave Ramsay. Also on the agenda could be Don Anderson with a 116th update. Also at the May meeting, the directors are up for reelection. Andy has stepped up to be VP. Bruce, as past president, will be ex officio, but can’t vote at Executive Committee meetings. A flyer will be mailed.
Party in the Park - The Board of Directors was asked, once again to serve as a sponsor of the Bridle Trails Foundation “Party in the Park”. $500 will be donated, through the Association, the individuals on the Executive Committee, and Lorraine Trosper, Director. After a brief discussion of support of the Park Foundation, the Executive Committee voted unanimously to be a sponsor of event again this year.
Neighborhood Association Finances – It was reported that there is additional money available from City grant funds. A discussion took place on what would be the best use of these funds if they became available. Currently our mailings are running about $1,000 each. It was suggested the funds go to a picnic mailing and the picnic. The Executive Committee voted unanimously to have Treasurer Barb Jones pursue obtaining additional funds from unused City grants.
Fall Meeting Agenda – At the September meeting we will host Mike Cogle and Jenny Schroeder on the 124th Street Park update. Mike Cogle will also address the park to be built at Ben Franklin School. Mike is looking to have a SRHBTNA Parks Subcommittee to work on these parks and to address issues such as public access, leaving the trees in place, etc., and maybe address amenities such as a picnic shelter, a restroom, etc. This subcommittee would work with the Parks Department and Lake Washington School District. The CIP will be done in 2007.
Picnic Committee – Bruce Feuling has agreed to chair the Picnic Committee.
Sidewalk Bond Exploratory Committee – The Committee is moving forward and hopes to put the proposal before Council. Deirdre Johnson continues to serve on this Committee.
Neighborhood Grant – Colleen Cullen reported that two new picnic tables and benches have been ordered. Colleen worked with Staff to move one of the portable picnic benches down into the meadow, a fixed table would be placed near the rocks, and benches will be moved to where the portable bench was and facing the climbing toys.
Houghton Land Fill – The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is being worked on and is in the final draft stage. There were “revelations” at the WISWAC meeting, including that the Houghton Land Fill was processing more than its share of the County’s waste. (If there are eight transfer stations, they should each be processing 12 1/5 % each.) The criteria for measuring vehicles from within/without the 30 minute service line was changed to say “within the urban boundary area.” Funds will be allocated to do the roof, sound wall, and possible trailer expansion (a condition will be to no longer have trailers parked overnight except two in the pit). As part of the MOU, it has been agreed to do the pathway in front of the Transfer Station, put extruded curbs to make three foot walkway, parking, curb, and continuous path from 120th to 116th around the corner to the park & ride lot.
Equestrian Advisory Board - The EAB will hopefully be meeting late this week or next week. The EAB will deal with code interpretation. There have recently been three instances where the Equestrian Overlay was not upheld. These include counting ditches as part of the 10,000 sq. ft., a sport court, a swimming pool, and an area so narrow there is no access to get a trailer or a truck in or out. Qualifications for the EAB will be individuals who either live within the Equestrian Overlay area, own an equine, or own or have owned or managed an equine operation. It is hoped that Board members will serve as watchdogs, and actually walk the site before any construction is approved.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:47 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Deirdre Johnson
Secretary
