SOUTH ROSE HILL/BRIDLE TRAILS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
Executive Committee Meeting – Tuesday, August 8, 2006
President Simecek called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Attendance:
Jeanette, Andy, Barb, Ern, C.Ray, Lorraine, Laura, Colleen, and Deirdre
Congratulations - To Andy Held on the birth of his new daughter.
Signs - All the SRHBTNA signs should be placed out in their usual locations announcing the Picnic.
Picnic - The NA Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 12th. A snowcone machine has been secured. We are still trying to find a resource for pre-popped popcorn as we have been unable to get a popcorn machine. The tables and chairs will, once again, be coming from North Rose Hill. The fun activities are all scheduled and ready to go. The Picnic Decorators should arrive at 11:00 a.m. (There is no overhead sign for the picnic this year because the pole was knocked down by a car and not replaced.)
NA Calendar - The SRHBTNA calendar will be forwarded to the Methodist Church to book the dates for future meetings.
Flyers - Regarding possible CC&R changes are being sent around by a Bridle Trails neighbor. Bridle Trails residents have been cautioned about changing the CC&Rs in response to a flyer.
Permit Notification - The City of Kirkland no longer sends copies of permit applications to the Neighborhood Association. A volunteer is needed to monitor mypermits.com.
NA Grant - The City has changed the way it runs its Grants. Up to $2,000 may be available to SRH/BTNA but the money will need to be spent by the end of the year.
Website – The RoseTrails.org site will be switching to a FrontPage site.
Houghton Transfer Station – Miswac/King County Solid Waste is making a recommendation that the County close the Houghton Transfer Station and construct two new stations in the N.E. portion of the County – one in Factoria and one in a location yet to be identified.
Ben Franklin School Park – The design has been narrowed to two alternatives – the grass will either be maintained or pretty much left alone. The trees will stay and the park entrances and exits will be made stroller-friendly. There will be no access to the park during school hours. They are trying to add bike features to channel BMX trails where they can be managed. The Parks Department is seeking more feedback from the community before November.
The 124th Avenue NE Park (the park without a name, yet) – We can give input on the name for this park but it will need to be in to the City by the end of September. The preliminary survey has been finished. Wetlands cover a large portion of the park. Preliminary plans include multiple pavilions or a large pavilion, ADA parking stalls, and mostly walking trails. The big cedar can be saved if Sound Transit moves the sidewalk around the tree.
Gas Mitigation/Extraction – Jeanette has been pursuing further information about gas mitigation at the Houghton Transfer Station and private gas extraction system requirements from the City, County, and Health Department.
Planning Commission – The hearing on August 24th will include a discussion of miscellaneous zoning code amendments (including “fast food” vs. “restaurant”). Also to be discussed will be the Equestrian Overlay.
Possible Agenda Items – For the September 12th meeting
- A report on the N.A. Picnic
- Denise Pirolo from Kirkland Public Works talking about Sewers
- I-933
- Neighborhood Grant
- Ben Franklin and 124th Ave Parks
The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Deirdre Johnson
Secretary
